I wish I could get it in as an elective. I did send an appeal to the Head of Advisement with a copy of the email that was sent by another advisor. I won't hold my breath though. The advisor I spoke with seemed pretty adamant on her stance. But I'll let you know if things change. Cook frequents this forum a lot so I won't PM her unless I get desperate. LOL!

I'd also welcome any advice by anyone on any alternatives other than cleps. Currently, I'm finishing up 12 credits at TESC and just started 6 UL credits at AMU. I need 6 LL credits to apply for graduation in March 2010. Something fast and inexpensive. Thanks.

I didn't see any mention of FEMA credits in your posts. Are they an option?

I only took 1 PF class and it wasn't bad at all - Business Communications (or whatever they call it). The good things were that it is self-paced, so you could finish it as quickly as your motivation/schedule allows, and all of my papers were graded SUPER FAST. None of this waiting around forever for a grade. For this class, I did have to wait until each assignment was graded before I could submit the next one. But, like I said the teacher was really on the ball with grading.

Have you maxed out the other Aleks options: beg algebra, intermediate algebra, etc.?

I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with this. We'll figure out - this board is great for that!

ALTHOUGH, I have to say two things. First, if this is true, that means they are NOT re-classifying Business stats as a math class, but that it can be used as a stats requirement. This might be important to psych and business students- but it's bad news for every other BA major. Anyone in a BA plan willing to test this? I'd fall over dead if they gave someone liberal arts credit for that class...but stranger things have happened. That doesn't mean that they can't call it a duplicate, however, I would be VERY CAUTIOUS telling someone that they could use Business stats as their liberal arts stats. I think if I'm understanding this, well...I'll think this through a bit.

Second, I think I know who you spoke to, and if I'm right, she's an idiot (and I RARELY ever call someone an idiot, I think the last time was this same advisor a few months back lol).

Hummm... this doesn't mean she's wrong... but she's only been there about 8 months and she didn't seem like the kind of person who learns quickly...but I'll not speak unkind,maybe it's someone else. However, for her to sound so sure of how ALL the ALEKS/TESC students are evaluated is confusing since there have probably been about 2-3 people IN ALL who have even tried to send in all 3 ALEKS stats for a liberal arts major (if even that). Really, of the number of people taking ALEKS, how many are taking all three stats, and of those that are, who knows about ACE, and of those that are, how many are TESC students? WE ARE the population of people she is talking about. She's an idiot.

Thank you Jadechow. This is going to sound like a dumb question at this point? But what exactly is FEMA? I've seen that mentioned quite a bit here but I thought this was credits earned through the military. I've kind of glossed over this stuff because I thought it wouldn't be any use to me being a non-military student.

Penn Foster sounds like a good option. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow for more info.

Yes, I've maxed out ALEKS which was a fantastic way for me to get 15 credits. No matter what response I get from Advisement tomorrow I'm happy with the credits I've got, just frustrated with dealing with advisors and the constant second guessing that goes on. I found that the advisors are great when it comes to approving courses from TESC or CLEPS but once you ask them to approve a course off the beaten path you'll encounter some resistance. I imagine they will assume the same position when I ask about Penn Foster classes.

Oh then you are free and clear because you can knock out three FEMA credits in a weekend if you are really really motivated and TESC will take them for electives. Problem solved! Much faster and easier (and free) compared to ALEKS. You can get six credits in no time at all!

I wonder if dual stats classes are only allowed for certain majors? Otherwise this makes no sense whatsoever. It also may be the advisor. I've read the science advisors are much better than their counterparts in the arts. I happen to be under the science umbrella as I am dual enrolled science & arts. Still they must receive approval from the same head of advisors. I hope this works itself out soon.

just for clarity what is your major? everyone who picks up the phone says stats is stats. when they evaluate the transcript things can change.

I just wanted to let you know I just got done speaking to an advisor and she let me know that ALEKS0007 Intro to Stats, ALEKS0008 Business Statistics, and ALEKS0009 Statistics for Behavioral Science are all STA201. She told me you could take all 3 courses but you would only get 3 credits. She said Stats is Stats. I mentioned to her that I got an email from TESC earlier that ALEKS0008 was OPM351 but she said it didn't matter and the advisor that sent it made a mistake. And she also said if it's not on your evaluation it doesn't mean it's approved anyway. She also stated that no student at TESC has gotten credit for more than 1 Stat course in ALEKS. Has anybody gotten credit for more than 1 Stat course in ALEKS? Her statement doesn't seem right considering how many people I've seen on the forum with multiple ALEKS Stat classes. Anyway, I wanted to pass on this info. for TESC students considering doing more than 1 Stat class at ALEKS.

Now I have to tweak my plan to apply for graduation on time. I need 6 credits to graduate. Are there anything similar to ALEKS where I can take 2 classes and finish in less than a month? I've read some comments about Penn Foster classes and Straighterline classes how are they? Which could I finish on time and have transcripts sent to TESC before end of March?
