My son completed US History 2 on Straighterline in 4 days, while also working on some other classes. I'd imagine the first course is similar. You could complete it in one day in a pinch. It had only a few tests plus the final.
Here Researching for my son, who has done the following:
Community College: Intro to Philosophy, Fundamentals of IT, English Comp 1
Saylor: Intro to Business, Principles of Marketing, Corporate Communication
Shmoop: US History 2 (WGU won't accept this)
ALEKS: Int. Algebra, College Algebra
Study.com: Personal Finance, Principles of Finance, HR Management, Global Business, Advanced Operations Management
Straighterline: US History 2, Environmental Science, US History, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, English Comp 2, Principles of Management, Business Law, Business Ethics, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Accounting 1,Communication, Managerial Accounting, Statistics
Ed4Credit: Managing Information Systems
Sophia: Project Management
WGU: Bachelors in HR Management
Second son is currently attending Penn Foster for his high school diploma, then on to Ashworth for An Associates in Criminal Justice

Are those the only choices you are allowed to use? You could get a LOT more credits- among them, US History I and II, Modern European History, and series of math and literature classes, all for $90/ month.
Shmoop are nonproctored and ACE-approved.
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.
83 hours of ACE-worthy credits

True, as long as you are not transferring to WGU - they don't accept Shmoop.

Has to be either US History I or II - either CLEP or Straighterline. I'm more familiar and remember more of early colonization history of America so choosing US History I, but cant decide between Straighterline or CLEP.

SL will probably be a quicker option for you. You can probably buckle down and finish it in a few days. For the CLEP it may take you a bit longer as you have to study for the whole course then take a "final". So SL is probably the easier/quicker of the two options unless you would only need a day or two to study up for the CLEP. The CLEP would be cheaper also unless you where planning on more courses from SL in the same subscription.
Thomas Edison State University - BSBA: Accounting - September 2017
B&M: Stats, Business Law I, Microeconomics, Business Comm, Computer Concepts and Apps, Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting II, Managerial Accounting, Not-for-Profit Accounting
CLEP: Sociology, Psychology, Marketing, College Comp Modular, Human Growth and Development
Institutes: Ethics 312
Aleks: Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, PreCalculus
Shmoop: U.S. History I, U.S. History II, Modern European History
Study.com: Principles of Finance, Advanced Accounting I, Applied Managerial Accounting, American Government, Macroeconomics, Principles of Management, Globalization and International Management, English Composition II, Intro to Computing, Public Speaking, Info Systems and Comp Apps
SL: Intermediate Accounting I, Introduction to Religon, Cost Accounting, Western Civilization I/II
TECEP: Strategic Management, Federal Income Tax

My 17 year old was the same - much more knowledgeable about world history and the first half of US history - he's actually really glad he took US History 2 with SL - it was a short text and he learned a lot he wouldn't have learned otherwise - he was taking it to check off that box, but I think he got something out of it in that 4 day timespan as well.
