A sensible piece of advice. Whenever you post something online, there's a possibility that it'll exist somewhere forever. Even if you don't use your real name, it may take relatively little sleuthing to associate an online alias with a real name. I'm not saying don't express yourself online - but I would say that you should be tactful and use common sense when posting.

When I google my legal name I get about 5 results: linkedin, classmates.com, a newsletter for a company I used to work at, & some of the general people searches that list age & relatives.
When I type in my professional name (which is very unique) I get 16 pages of results, not including forum results, photos or videos. There are at least 13 videos of me on youtube. Apparently someone also mentioned me in a book... so I'll be interested to read that. This doesn't include all of my forum posts. I generally just used my first (professional) name for that, & everyone knew who I was. I know it wouldn't be hard to find those posts. I was upfront about who I was. The thing about being anonymous is it often causes people to not be very nice or take pride it what they say. If you are considered an expert though, its often because you are knowledgeable, able to back-up your statements/opinions, & don't feel the need to hide behind some username. In other words, you are strong enough to open yourself up for judgement.

Honestly in the last few years that has been my big fear with Google getting into facial recognition. It was bad enough for a lot of my friends & work associates a few years ago when the wiki leaks site came out a few years ago listing thousands of video performers real age, home addresses, family members etc as were found in the AIM database. That website is illegal in the US but still accessible, & authorities here have been unable to pull it down because its hosted outside of the country. There is a huge lack of respect for privacy these days that really puts people in serious danger if stalkers, murderers, etc.
