So, when I Google my name, FREQUENTLY posts from this forum appear. FREQUENTLY. This will be the case forever.

I mention this just as a little caution for some of you who openly engage in debates that may be judged by people OUTSIDE this forum.....like parents, bosses, church friends, future children, potential employers.....just a thought.

Anonymity? Don't count on it.

But your name is in your signature and user name. I doubt that 95% of the names of the members here have ever been mentioned on this forum.

Yeah, I'm with topdog98 on this one.....most people aren't going to be using their real names in whatever forum's they find themselves on.

The world is small. Even with my mediocre computer skills people are easy to identify. I'm open about my identity because transparency is easier for ME, and I get why people try to keep their privacy private.... But this board has generally been a source of encouragement and support, until recently, and some folks may want to remember that their words will pretty much be "out there" for everyone to see. I'm just pointing out the (not so?) obvious. Of course anyone can do and say as they please.

You can just say "Leebo is destroying the forum" if that's what you mean.

When I google my real name I get over 10,000 hits!! Most of them are either like Peoplefinder or they are really my Husband, son(s), Mother or father in law or my sister in law. There are only 6 living people who have or had my last name. When I google Lindagerr I get some things about me and lots about a Linda Gerr in Minnesota a Guardian ad litem who was a crook!! So It makes me skeptical when I look up anyone's name on google. It also makes me want to pay more attention to what I put online. Thank goodness I don't use my real name on Facebook even though I don't post much there.

Cookderosa,

You'e on the nose, but folks don't need to totally freak out. Locally, two people were hired for relatively high positions who had been fired from their previous jobs. One was an out-and-out fire (it was in the newspaper), and the other one was an easily inferred fire (reading forums, comments posted to newspaper articles, etc.). Both "explained" their situations as being political, and the powers-that-be fell for it. Neither is what you'd call a high-performer.

I think the point of this post is a good one. It may not apply to all but if it does, it's good advice to heed. I don't use my government name anywhere, not even on Facebook.

Good advice, here.

I just Googled myself - going through pages of namesakes - and hundreds of pictures - but found zero on the Internet pertaining to me, under my real name. I once had a Facebook page, for a few months, under that name, but I closed it years ago - and I'm agreeably surprised to find nothing seems to have survived.

I did this years ago and I remember seeing a fairly recent (at that time) picture from one college graduation or other -- but that was 10 years ago or more. It's gone, now.

But if I check "Johann" - now that guy is all over, with his rants, bold-type and underlining in degree-forums. What a fool! Smile
