Affordable Math degree for non-US (international) citizen
#1
It has been a while I have been searching for a Math degree. I would like to have a math degree on my belt before I proceed to my next milestone in five years' time - an engineering related master.

I checked the following options:

  1. TESU: Sample TESU BA Mathematics Degree Plan - Degree Forum Wiki (miraheze.org)
  2. SNHU (US): SNHU Mathematics Degree Plan - Degree Forum Wiki (miraheze.org)
  3. Open University UK.

They are quite popular as fully online math degree. However, they all cost pretty expensive, and they are way out of my budget.

Then, I saw this post about SNHU (India) division. It is for non-US citizens only. Link here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...nt-in-SNHU .

Quote:for International students (not applied if you hold USA passport), you can enroll in SNHU's India Online program. The courses are taught in English by Indian instructors, and you can receive a 60-65% scholarship, This scholarship reduces the total cost to just $3,735 for four years, which amounts to $933 per year.

This aligns with my budget. The cost is cheap enough for me. And the Indian division also offers the Bachelor's of Mathematics degree.
  • The goal of achieving this degree is to getting good math education with help from tutors. I saw reviews from current students on Reddit that SNHU (US) offers good math education. I will try not to transfer math credits, but to complete math courses at SNHU (India).
  • I hope I can be exempt/transfer from all of the General Education credits (the social science, history stuff) since I already have a Bachelor from a UK institution previously. My Bachelor in UK does not have similar General Education courses though. I may have to ask.
The math course offer from the India division seems the same as the US original one. For that price, it might be more cost effective to study the courses in SNHU (India) than going to the online education platform.

Do you actually need a math degree or could you just take some math courses? Local community colleges may be a great resource for math courses.

I have checked the local community college options previously. However, we don't have such system in the country I am at.

I have also checked the international students tuition fee for going to different community college (CC) in the US. The cost is steep. I use this info to check: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sources_of_Credit

I saw your signature - you completed a BS in IT from Derby.

getting it evaluated with WES, and doing a second degree from TESU would only require 30 credit hours

that might be the cheapest?

That's awful Sad . I wonder why they put an unavailable program on their website.

Last time I checked, TESU have some kind of residency waiver fee and that makes it quite expensive for me.

ah ok. i can't find anything cheaper.

CMU has an online math major, even if you manage to do it as a second major, it's gonna be $270/CH x 30 = $8100 USD

Yes, TESU will cost you $5-6000. You either have to pay the residency waiver, or take 15 credits from them. The latter is slightly cheaper, IF you take those credits in a single 12 week term. However, if the SNHU India route isn't available, I think it's likely to be your cheapest option.

You could try SNHU Computer Science with Mathematics or Applied Mathematics minor - I don't know if SNHU India allows minors, though; I believe they should as it's the same university? I am also looking towards SNHU India as it's cheaper. I know you are looking for major in math rather in CS but they are very adjacent for master/PhD purposes, as CS is technically an applied math, so to speak.
