The whole "badge" thing is stupid and annoying, frankly. Do we have to gamify EVERYTHING now? Just give me a regular transcript without this cutesy nonsense. As an adult, I really don't need everything in life to resemble a video game.

I liked the layout of the old ACE transcript. Maybe they could've updated it a little with more modern CSS but it was organized neatly and it was easy to tell what was listed and what might still be missing. This new badge thing is a complete mess and I can no longer tell at a glance what I might be missing and from where.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

It also doesn't suggest serious courses that were taken for college credit. It's more like "achievement unlocked for crushing Super Boss Candy, here's your Diamond-level badge!" (OK, I have no idea what actually happens in Candy Crush, but you know what I mean...)

I just logged into my Credly, looks similar to what it was before, but the domain name changed. I didn't have to re-sign up or anything... Yes, I agree, the older system looked much better for the transcripts, simple and sweet...it got the job done anyways. Ah wells...

Sadly in my industry it seems like the more certs and letters that you have after your name the better you are off. We just had a position filled by our secretary and I knew she was not qualified for the job.
She is about to get a degree from WGU in healthcare management and has some obscure certs. Our manager mentioned all of that when he promoted her. I would have preferred someone that had hands on experience and was not afraid to actually do the work. Her communications skills are severely lacking which speaks ill of WGU. Some of my coworkers are questioning WGU and online education because of her. Her idea of "leadership" skills is telling everyone to do her job in an annoying manner.
I really hope that more people apply what they learn in the work force and not earn a degree just to have cute little badges and letters after their names.

I blame whoever thinks she's a good employee to promote, rather than issues with WGU.

Personally I like the new system and Acclaim.
I work for a tech company, this company has used Acclaim for a few years before ACE got added. So, these badges are already common in our world. I actually am required at work to have my licensure badges in my signature for all emails so clients can be aware I am "licensed" in them.
ACE using Acclaim isn't a big jump, when Acclaim has become the standard for business / tech industry to "reward" users for learning a complex topic.

But licensing/certification badges aren't the same as academic courses for credit. Those belong on a standard transcript. I recently had to convince someone in admissions that these "badges" meant something. When many of us were having trouble getting certain Sophia badges added to Acclaim, it was hard to explain that I took and passed the courses but Sophia couldn't generate badges for them... the admissions person was like "We don't care about badges, we just need to see an official transcript with a passing mark." I had to explain that these badges ARE the transcript now. It was ridiculous. Like I was in grade school talking about gold stars and smiley faces on my test papers.
If Acclaim/Credly wants to award badges to display on LinkedIn or what have you, fine. But they shouldn't REPLACE the transcript. We should be able to choose to send traditional transcripts to educational institutions or generate badges for other uses.

This x100. It's not as big a deal with schools that welcome alt credit with open arms - but try sending a Credly "transcript" to a school that rarely deals with ACE credit... they're just going to laugh at it.
