I respectfully disagree with you. One-dimensional most certainly is synonymous with "lacking depth", and is in fact, the very definition provided by Merriam-Webster.

To it sounds like you did not interpret the question correctly. All writing questions contain two dimensions: breadth and depth. The breadth of this question was given to you as five features. Depth was given as 1-2 sentences. So I would have written 1-2 sentences on each of the five features. You only wrote on two features. I may not be totally in sync with your prof., but my academic experience it's best to always write more if in doubt of what is being asked.

I most definitely feel your pain. Evidently, no "sample examples" are given for EC's Lib Arts Capstone either. Based on what I've seen of that syllabus, without any sample essays, I'll be at a complete loss...banghead - complete loss, I don't graduate...:ack:
Don't know if you're at the end of your course or if you still have more assignments left to go, but if you're an EC student you have free access to the Smarthinking tutoring service ( and I would think other schools utilize this or similar services, too). If your prof. isn't of any help, maybe put your next assignment up over at Smarthinking and see if they can help you out - I'm going to give this a try regarding the Capstone.
Good Luck!

Write a feature-benefit-emotional appeal statement an Apartment Leasing Professional might make for each of the five (5) features listed below. Each feature-benefit-emotional appeal statement is worth 6 points. (30 points total)
Balcony (or patio)

To receive full credit, the benefit and emotional appeal given in each statement must clearly relate to the feature being discussed. Points will be deducted if:
If a benefit does not clearly satisfy a possible need or want
If an emotional appeal is not clearly expressed and connected to the benefit
A feature-benefit-emotional appeal statement has significant spelling or grammar errors

One example:
4) Pantry:
A pantry made for royalty. Our 150 sq. ft. pantry will clearly show your guests a feature not available anywhere else. A must have for dining and entertainment.
Her response:
Your approach seems one dimensional and does not really show a benefit other than luxury.

The statement is pretty clear. You should have used other approaches on the other features, like utility, uniqueness, durability, etc...

But people don't care about quality or practicality. They care about paying a little more so they can show off to their friends and family. Again I would have liked some examples. I've never sold a tenant on quality, I've always sold them on luxury.

Obviously the instructor doesn't agree with you. Do you want a A or not?

I have a final project coming up. I've asked for an example, however she has not responded. I'm just really disappointed with the lack of examples and poor feedback. Each lesson has a 2 page reading assignment which also covers very little on each topic. A B it is

I too do not want to derail the original topic, but do want to point out that "lacking depth" is the secondary definition in Merriam-Webster. The primary definition is "having one dimension" and that is how I use it. I find the secondary definition simply a consequence of the first and rather unenlightening and sometimes misleading.
