AS in Math, opinions please

San Jacinto College AS, Mathematics if I CLEP Calculus 1 ($150), and take San Jac's Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Calculus 2 online in one semester ($1005). So 4 courses and $1155 before books. OR,
TESU, ASNSM, Mathematics if I Straighterline Calculus 1 & 2 ($300), and take San Jac's Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Calculus 3 online in one semester ($1005). So 5 courses and $1305 before books.

..ouch. LA, DE, and C2 or C3 in the same term? Tell me you have a wicked high aptitude for math, and plenty of time to study that term. Some thoughts:

- Calc 2 is arguably the hardest of the calc sequence, coming in a smidge ahead of DiffE. Neither is cake, typically. You'll need the integration techniques from 2 for DiffE, but you could binge-watch Jim Fowler's integration C2 videos over at Coursera for free to get on top of that before DE starts, and then still be able to take C2 concurrently with DE. Not fun, but possible.

- Any college DE class is going to be harder than Intro to DE (the first of the 3-class series) @ EdX. Why? Because at EdX, they've taken BU's "Intro to DE" and split it into three classes. So at EdX, you'll have 8-9 weeks to do the *first* part of a 1-semester class (and you can work ahead a bit, and take the final as soon as it opens, so there's that). So EdX is cheap, and slower paced/less material than 3 credits DE at your CC (or anywhere else in the educational world - I still can't wrap my brain around the logic in this...but...).

- You could do SL C1 & C2 (=8cr via Alternative Credit Project), EdX IntroDE - just the first of the 3 class series (brings to you 11), Study.com Stats (gets you to 14), and Study.com's Geometry 101 (= TESU MAT-260, Geometry)...giving you a total of 17 credits that you do mostly on your own time, and for a LOT less $ than either of your plans....well, except for the original, SL C1 & C2, then all 3 EdX. Just depends on when they're running the sequence again.

For TESU, you could do just one San Jac course if you added Stats and Geometry. Much cheaper.

I don't see why Intro Stats *wouldn't* count. It's theory.

They aren't requiring much. Allowing Geometry is lax.

I was thinking of taking the 3 classes for credit in one semester, but NEXT year. I have no firm study plans after July of this year, so I was thinking I could really get Calc 2 down this fall in preparation for Spring 2018. Basically Aug-Dec would be math prep time.

Crap, here I was thinking I'd have to bust my butt to get the required credits. I could easily spread out the options you and Ideas presented, over the next year? Heck yeah. Thank you cheersmate

I would get the them both at the same time, the ASNSM and also the BS. You should only pay one graduation fee as well.

It certainly seems to me I could get the math courses done before the end of the year.

Meet BSBA requirement this summer, pay for residency waiver, apply for December graduation. Meet AS Math requirement this fall. Graduate with both degrees in December?
