AS/BS combo - how to bank credits properly?

Greetings to everyone. I feel like I know a bunch of you from spending so many hours reading posts. I'm so amazed at the thoughtful, generous responses from folks here....and I promise that I have searched and searched for an answer before posting a question.

I have all the GERs for a BS from a B&M school. I would like to apply those toward TESC's Environmental AAS because I think I could be just some FEMA classes away from my AAS. Hooray!

I would also like to get a BA in business admin.

I want to work on these degrees concurrently. I understand that the FEMA credits wouldn't necessarily count toward the BS, which is TOTALLY fine.

What I'm worried about is banking credits. I've read here that some folks have had trouble if they completed a course for a second degree before the first degree's conferrance (??) date.

And I've read that some credits can't be used twice...apply it to your first degree, so it doesn't apply toward the second.

Given these parameters, my question is: What is the most effective way to bank credits so that they are most applicable toward my degrees? Perhaps I should get the AAS at TESC and the BS somewhere else? I would hate to get CLEP credits that don't count toward the BA because I took them before they issued my AAS.

First, you don't need a credit bank.

Second, the question you are asking is mixing up the policy of earning a second degree in-house. In your case, you're earning a second degree elsewhere, so not an issue.

Simply, unless the AAS at TESC duplicates the degree you're earning a BS in, there is no conflict of any kind. Do them simultaneously if you like. You won't have to earn new credits or credits after a certain date. Again, that policy only applies to 2 degrees earned at TESC one after another.

PS I'm pretty sure they still require an internship for the AAS in Enviro, so you should enroll well ahead of time. I think it needs to be several hundred hours, so you'll want to factor in the administration of getting your site set up, approved, documented, completed, etc. ahead of the graduation date deadline. These two things can take 6-9 months before being actually handed your AAS, so I'd say to start as soon as you know for sure you are under a year from finishing. If your internship runs you outside of your yearly enrollment, TESC is going to want $2600 for a subsequent enrollment year. NOT good.

How many tests do you plan on taking for your BSBA and how long do you anticipate that it will take?

Is there a reason that you want to do the associates degree and the BS? I know a lot of people here do that and for some people it's the right choice, but if I had gone that route, it would have been wasted money as it was pretty quick to get the bachelor's finished.

Another thought that may cost as much, but look just as good or better on a resume would be to get the BSBA and then rather than the associates, get an environmental certificate. This may not be the best route for you, but I thought I'd bring it up as an option.

I agree that you do not need a credit bank.

Looking at this thread I think it make perfect sense to get the AA and the BSBA. They are both different subject areas and for many different reason they can compliment each other. Many people grab an AA on the way to their BA. I even did it myself a few times. Each degree is different.

I recommend that you make a schedule and stick to it. It is the best way to get this done. Good Luck
