There are 4 (5) exams, and count differently:

OPI/OPIc (Oral) - worth up to 12cr (6 UL and 6 LL), OPI has many more languages available than OPIc but is more expensive
WPT (Written) - worth up to 12cr (6 UL and 6 LL),
RPT (reading) - worth up to 6cr LL
LPT (listening) - worth up to 6cr LL

Depends on which school you are getting your degree at as to what you should take. TESU will take all 4 exams, and if you're getting the BALS, the WPT and OPI/OPIc would get your almost all of your UL & LL credits in the AoS. If you're going to UMPI, it seems like taking the LPT or RPT would be enough to get you your GEC foreign language requirements, and then some electives, but you couldn't rack up credit in the same way.
