ACE approved 5 Coursera courses
#1
I received an email today from coursera.org. They have received ACE approval for 5 courses: Intro to Genetics & Evolution, Calculus: Single Variable, BioElectricity: A Quantitative Approach, Pre-Calculs and Algebra. The guidebook explains more: Coursera College Credit Recommendation Guidebook.

Ok. Thanks for letting me know. I did not search for coursera threads before posting. But I did check the first page of Gen Ed & Testing section and didn't see anything remotely related to the topic. The other thread was started on Feb 8. Maybe this will at least give someone the info who hasn't been on the forum in a few weeks. Anyone interested in this should go to the link Sanatone provided and read the comments. There's some helpful info in that thread.

It would be awesome to have some courses from U of Penn, U of Cal and esp Duke U on my transcript.

Sadly, this isn't going to lead to that in any direct sense. The ACE National Guide listings give Coursera, Inc. as the evaluated organization, and don't identify any "partnered" universities. As this is set up now, there doesn't seem to be any chance any of these partnered universities will appear as the source of credit for any Coursera course.

I expect disappointment as people see these university names, and "credit," and only later realize that the universities themselves don't grant the credit recommendations.

Thanks Jonathan! I'm disappointed to hear that. Unless someone really wants the courses on Genetics or BioElectricity, why take the coursera courses, unless the format and price is agreeable? I think I'll pass but someone else here may benefit.

*nods.* And Bioelectricity is recommended for two upper-level semester hours. This is unlikely to fill a space in someone's degree plan usually denominated in units of 3 sh. Maybe a little more likely in the natural sciences given lab courses in 4 sh denominations, but still.

For genetics, there's also an ECE in Basic Genetics introduced last year.
