AAS Applied Computer Studies vs AAS Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies
#11
Read this in an article about useless degrees.

"Some degrees have really bizarre names, and if you have one of those and you have to try to explain it to the recruiter or an employer, it's not helping you, so I would avoid them. These two fall into that category," she says.

It seems like, AAS in Environmental , Safety, & Security Technologies, is just "one" of those degrees that will question a lot of people. I'm not calling this degree "useless". I agree with Sanantone, regarding the credibility of that degree, it may look nice on a resume but it's just hard to explain exactly what the degree is based on.

I agree with regard to the Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies. I actually mentioned that to a co-worker - that one would have to be prepared to answer questions about it if one lists it on their resume. I think it is clear that the Applied Computer Studies degree seems much better.

I wouldn't worry so much about associates degrees. Once you have a bachelors and masters degree the associates will fade into a distant memory.
Just focus your time and money on getting that BSBA CIS ASAP.
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU
Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science

I asked this same question before and finally decided on Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies after thinking about it and discussing this with others here. My personal reasoning:
1) I think CS is redundant with the CIS.
2) I also plan to work in IT security
3) This degree has thee useful keywords for applications: “Security”, “Technologies”, and “Environmental” (as in “Environmental Security” one of the CISSP domains).
