AAS Applied Computer Studies vs AAS Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies

All,

I have completed everything that I needed in order to get the BSBA CIS from TESC. However, it appears that I can also get an AAS degree. I cannot think of any reason that I shouldn't get one. It looks like I have all the required credits for either of the following:

AAS in Applied Computer Studies (AAS.CMPSTY)
AAS in Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies (AAS.ENVSAFT)

Would the Applied Computer Studies seem redundant with the BSBA CIS? Or would it bolster it?

Is the Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies too unrelated to my BSBA CIS?

My opinion is that the Applied Computer Studies is redundant and that the Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies degree is useless. Unless you used FEMAs, both of those degrees probably look similar for you. It's all just a matter of which name will look better on your transcript. There is supposed to be a bit of a difference between information systems and applied computer studies, but not at TESC since they practically accept anything for the computer studies degree. Information systems is supposed to be less technical and more business oriented. My opinion probably doesn't help you at all.

No FEMAs involved. I see by your signature that you have the AAS in Environmental, Safety, & Security Technologies. Are you saying that it is useless for me or for everyone (yourself included)?

I think it's useless for 99% of the population. It's almost as useless as an associates in general studies. Either one could be used to get into a police department. Maybe you will luck out and an employer will be confused by the title mistaking it for a network security-type of degree.

That, then, begs the question. Why did you get one?

It was free and I already had the credits for it. I only paid one graduation fee for my BA. Now, I wish I wouldn't have gotten it. I would have much preferred an associates in computer studies and another one in biology. If I ever decided to get another associates from TESC, I'd have to choose between the two because I've already wasted one on the ESST.

I've gotten several interviews because of my BA in Social Science and zero because of the associates. I have not seen an emergency management opening in my area that requires less than a bachelors. I have not seen any safety jobs that require less than a bachelors in occupational safety, engineering, or a natural science in my area.

That sounds like an argument for me to select the AAS in Applied Computer Studies. Like you, it will be a freebie for me since I've already paid for the BSBA.

Hm. Not a bad idea, I am looking at the requirements for that. I may have reached the requirements for the AAS in Applied Computer Studies. I just don't see it on online student services, so I can select it in the academic evaluation to see if I'm missing any credits. It won't show that one or the AAS in Criminal Justice. Anyone know why?

Edit: Sorry, I found the AAS in Applied Computer Studies one. Just not the AAS in Criminal Justice. Weird.

Edit again: Whoops, I'm no where close to in AAS in Applied Computer Studies, lmao. Well was worth a try :]

Edit Third time: I just don't understand why TESC won't let me select the AAS in Criminal Justice in the online student services portal. I mean I do have an NA accredited associates degree from Penn Foster College in Criminal Justice. But I never sent TESC my transcripts for that. They wouldn't assume I have an NA degree, than completely knock off the AAS in CJ from them. Because TESC only has my ACE transcript of the courses from Penn Foster that are ACE evaluated. Going to call them tomorrow and see why is that. I was trying to turn a NA degree RA basically, -_-. Many are asking why? Lol. I just really have a huge problem listing Penn Foster on my resume, as it might hurt it. :O

If that's the case I'll just stick to the AAS in Environmental, Safety, & Security Technologies. Which I can select that from my Academic Evaluation portal on Online Student Services.

I couldn't get the Criminal Justice one to work either. I think it is a bug.
