A little WGU MSISA Review ....
#61
JTP Wrote:@Stretcharmy I finally took my CEH exam on Friday and passed it. Definitely tougher than Security+ but nowhere close to being tough enough to need the 4 hours and 15 minutes they give you.

You were right about the official courseware being boring and useless. I did the labs and used Matt Walker's All In One exam guide book(generic gold and red cert books), and printed off lists of commands for nmap, netcat, nslookup, and a couple other tools.

Once the official cert comes in, I am going to have it evaluated by COSC to see how many credits it will get me in their cyber security major.

Anyway best of luck in your future studies, and thanks again for this update thread.

Congrats on the pass!

@stretcharmy

Awesome thread and information I am getting very motivated to do this as well. I am in IT from last 10 years and already have CEH certification so I think this would be a good option for me. The only problem I have is I am not good at writing in fact the longest time in by BSBA was subjects that needed writing Sad

Asking one more favor from you, can you please list which exams are writing and which are test based.

Also if anybody has some suggestions on how I can improve my writing, basically I get bored and dread sitting down and writing and get full writers block. Are there any courses that would help or any tips?

I haven't seen stretcharmy active on the forum for a while. It looks like his last post was August. You may try sending him a PM so it goes to his email account...but if you do hear anything please share!

The tests were the CHFI, CEH, and Encryption. All other classes are writing.

The only thing that helped me was to set aside a hour or less each day and write - even if it was just a "story" about my day I would suggesting writing about it. No matter the case, write as it your life/day was worth reading about Smile

Start small, a couple paragraphs maybe, write / edit / rewrite until it becomes second nature

Hey Stretcharmy,

Thanks again for this review, it was my inspiration to take the CEH and CHFI. Now I'll be starting this program in February.

Bond Wrote:Greetings Stretcharmy,

Thank you for posting this thread. I am impressed how quickly you were able to document and demonstrate the competencies for the degree. Like you, I earned my MSISA from WGU in May 2014. However, for various reasons it took me 2 1/2 years to complete the degree. Still, I motored through and didn't give up. When I saw your thread tonight, it inspired me to join this forum so I could reach out and say "hello". Did you have any Cisco certs when you applied at WGU? I didn't ... and it would have saved me a lot of time had I prepared for that in advance. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your story.

Best regards,

~Bond

How would the Cisco certs saved you time?

Pretty sure that back when the program still existed, CCNA (and maybe CCNA Sec) were included as part of the program. In the MSCIA program that's replaced it just has CEH and CHFI included. CCNA CCNA Sec are part of the BS IT-Sec degree now.
