A little WGU MSISA Review ....
#11
I really don't have the cash to go into a second term so I have to kick my butt into gear. Between the wife and I we have spent a small fortune on school in the last two years.

Submitted task 4 for VLT2. Thank god that is done. I'm sure it will need revision but at least the bulk of it is done.

stretcharmy, excellent thread! I've been looking for something like this to read up on. I just finished my BA from Excelsior last month, and am waiting for the official degree conferment. I was hoping to get started at WGU for a MSISA this month, but I was told I have to wait till I have my BA officially in hand first. My goal, is the same as yours, to get the Masters degree done in a single term as soon as I get started.

If you have some time, do you think you can list some of the reading/writing assignments that you have to prepare? I'm thinking maybe I can get started on those while waiting for my start date.

Yeah, you have to wait, been there done that. And it has to be in a month before you start date so it adds another month on top of it.

I'm pretty sure that posting that kind of info is against the student code of conduct, you understand how it is.

Tweaked VLT2 task 4 and submitted it in. Pretty sure I'm going to get a pass the second time around. This class was a pain.

Task 4 complete. 43% in 7 weeks. Still feels like a really long way to go.

On a side note, I have changed my methodology of completing tasks. At first I was focused on getting a pass on the first try. However, I found myself writing a lot to ensure that was the case. I have since changed to writing what I think will get me close, and then having it graded. Going back and boosting what NEEDS to be, instead of what I THINK needs to be is much more effective. It does delay the passing of courses a bit for the grading cycle, however, a pass is a pass, and excellent work would show up the same as sufficient work. On the first tasks this is not really necessary or the second task of a 4 task course. But for the last tasks this is much more effective because they have a 4 level rubric.

Have you started any study on the CEH course yet?

I just got word from the company I work for that they will pay for the official training from EC-Council. Depending on how the rest of your studies go, I might consider WGU once I finish my bachelors.

I have completed the program but I'm waiting on my exam voucher from WGU. I have 7 years of relevant experience to the CEH and I started studying for it in march and decided to just hold off. It took me a week to go through the labs and I just read the book I couldn't stand watching endless videos

Submitted last task for Disaster recovery today. The other two tasks came back with minor edits that took about 5 min to fix. Back to the waiting game. There must be a lot of people taking the class, my taskstream numbers were in the 80's. That's strange for beginning of the month when numbers are typically low. Overall the class isn't too bad. It's a bit dry but not as dry as security policies.

Does WGU have their own study materials or do they go through EC-Council? I just started the EC-Council training, but never like to only use one source of material when taking cert exams. Just curious if you have any other sources you think were really good.
