A Minor in Public Health

Hello ,

  When I go to nursing school I plan to minor in Public Health , due to it being interesting. But online I can barely find a nurse with a minor in public health it's usually psychology , sociology , biology , chemistry or Spanish. Even if you're not a nurse yet you have a minor in Public Health how is it and has it benefitted your career?

Generally minors are not really that useful, and for health professionals, while a public health background may be useful, it also isn't required to enter into a public health career.

I don't have a minor in public health, but I have seen many healthcare professionals earn MPHs. There are also a lot of combination MPH programs such as MD/MPH. It depends on what level you want to practice. There are public health educators who only have a bachelor's degree in nursing, psychology, health education, etc. If you're going to be crunching statistics and conducting epidemiological studies, then I think a higher level of education would be called for.
