SDC and Sophia are good for credit but if you really want to understand then I think that ALEKS is a win. ASU uses ALEKS for its Algebra and Precalculus courses, hence my recommendation.

Is my understanding correct that Charter Oak won't take ALEKS raw, but will take it if cooked through ASU?

Correct. COSC doesn't take ALEKS as ACE credit. But they'd take it through ASU as MNomadic already explained. The way it's transcripted, they have no way of knowing whether it's done through ALEKS or by some old professor handing out mimeographed exams in a real classroom.
