7 months and I'm DONE!!! w/my Masters degree from Amberton

:hurray: Congrats !! what an accomplishment..so how long for the BA and MA combined? how many credits did you start out with?

I'm also looking at the MA professional develop-adult training. When you say that you had 4 assignments each class, what would a typical assignment be?

I obtained my AA in Dec. 2007. Started Excelsior with 75 credits Sept. 2008. Then finished the hard (chicken) way, without examining out, after taking 4 graduate courses. Although I only needed 2 to finish in Aug. 2009, but officially graduated in Oct. 2009. In between that time I started Amberton in Sept. 09 with an Excelsior conferral letter, and was allowed to transfer in the remaining 2 graduate classes. Allowing me to finish earlier.

The number of assignments depends on the professor. Of the courses I took, the average number of assignments was 6. Besides this last mandatory ethics course that had you buy 4 books to do at least 40 things hidden under seven assignments. The rest were usually straightforward assignments that basically entailed. Reading the book(s), taking around 4 tests, knowing APA thoroughly within your essays, articles, and 10 to 20 page research papers.

Do you think I could do this while working full time? Also, will I need to do alot of writing/research papers? I am trying to avoid the whole scholarly journal research/review stuff. Any advice?

I would like to complete my master's in less than a year, but have limited personal time outside of work to do it. Please advise.

The graduation ceremony is tomorrow. I won't be there in Texas, but I will be celebrating!!!

Even though I do have a lot of time on my hands, you can complete this degree reasonably. I wasn't doing the assignments everyday all day long. Well, except whenever I waited to start an assignment on the day that it was due. The most of the courses I took, had about 5 or 6 assignments in each one. Most of the assignments were due every 2 weeks, allowing plenty of time to turn in an assignment.

I would suggest that you first take up to 12 credits worth of classes with VESi to transfer. Make sure you do them after the confirmation date of the bachelor degree. These classes are very cheap graduate courses, and can be completed and submitted within 2 weeks.

All of my courses required research papers. These have ranged from 10 to 20 pages. The good thing though was that they just so happen to be due on different weeks of each other, that really helped. Since I took 3 courses at a time, except for the last semester when I took 4 courses. Some of the courses also require writing about articles. They are not so bad though, they usually are just about 3 pages.

The really good thing about their courses that I really like is that you are able to review each courses syllabus, prior to enrolling into the class. It lets you know which ones to stay away from, and which aren't so bad. Allowing you to hopefully stay away from those 20 pages papers. Although the professor can and have changed what is in it. I had one who changed our 20 page paper to a 10 page paper, happy I was.

Going off of the courses I took, finishing within a year is very doable, especially while you're working full-time.

You could take any of them. At that time there were only 2 (3) credit courses, and those are what I took. I already had taken 2 other graduate courses from Chadron. Being told that those 2 would also transfer into the graduate degree even though they were within my bachelors degree. However, that was not the case, so only the VESi courses transferred. Well anyway, I noticed that VESi has a number of 3 credit courses now. So just take any 4 (3) credit courses that may interest you, and make sure they are taken after your Bachelors degree conferred date. Although, now that I think of it, when I transferred the VESi courses to Morningside College they asked me which semester I wanted the courses to appear on their transcript. I suppose because I feel in between there terms, where it could have been listed under their summer or fall term.

I did obtain my certificate from Amberton as well. Any courses done within a graduate certificate can be applied towards the Masters degree. So I just included those certificate based 12 credit courses, along with 6 additional Human Resource credit courses within my Masters. In order to possibly teach, since 18 credits are needed at most colleges. Three of their terms are 10 weeks. The winter term was about 7 or 8 weeks. I actually missed not having to enroll this summer. I suppose that is testament to me enjoying my short stint with them. I'll miss it...

It took some doing, but I finished the VESi courses in 2 weeks. This was the minimum turn in time as well. Yes, you do need an A or B in order to transfer credits to both colleges. I think these are very easy courses though, so you shouldn't sweat it. I don't know about the Learning Resources of MN courses.
