It's easy to see how both of them acted the way they did.

Vle045 saw someone who wanted to do a very difficult job for not that much money without much additional context and warned him strongly against it, assuming that he had not thought it through. Maybe she's known people in the past who tried to be principals without thinking it through and saw the damage it causes when it doesn't work out.

OP, who had already thought long and hard about it and decided it's what he wants to do, took that warning as an insult, because it assumed that he had not thought it through. He's clearly seen what happens when principals, as many do, don't give a shit, and decided he wants to serve his community.

The internet is a difficult medium for sorting out who has come to their decisions thoughtfully and who hasn't. It sounds like OP is going to bust his ass to become a principal regardless of the difficulty of getting the job and the job himself. I hope he succeeds.

You're getting good info. The only thing I would add which is an opinion is shoot for the math and sciences as thats where the holes are. You'll need classroom time to become a principal and things will go "faster" if you fill the voids. Lord knows we need more math and science teachers! That said, since you want to focus on history, you would have to focus your efforts on UMPI or TESU, then look to WGU for masters level work. For you, American College of Education would also be worth a look.

Or, with the OP's experience as an auto dealership GM, career and technical education (e.g., business, auto shop, general shop) where there are also teacher shortages.

We had a difficult time this school year finding teachers for several CTE positions at the high school I work in. Teaching has changed a lot during the 18 years I have worked as an automotive instructor.

Completed:
TAMUC BAAS Org Leadership
SJC AAS Automotive Technology
