If Putin is playing games, it's not crazy to open a school there. There are crazier places to be such as Afghanistan, Somalia, etc.
So if Putin takes over all of Ukraine, what is the progression of what will happen next? Probably, 1. Rest of the eastern European countries immediately join the EU and Nato. 2. Russian kicked out of UN security council. 3. Russia kicked out of WTO. 4. Russia kicked out of G8. (already done after annexing Crimea) 5. Sanctions like the world has never seen before completely isolating Russia. 6. Russian Gas and oil pipelines blocked from the rest of the world. 7. Russia's Internet access could be blocked from rest of the world. Could Putin politically survive this, maybe, but it's a gamble, and politicians are swamp creatures that love money and don't like to gamble on their political future. I know the legacy media and especially Biden is pushing a narrative that an invasion is almost inevitable.

Biden et al have been promising harsh sanctions with very few specifics mentioned. While that may be a deterrent, it also makes it seem like the Ukraine is Putin's if he is willing to pay the price.

It didn't seem like the U.S. and other western countries are willing to drop the hammer on Russia with sanctions, as in $0 in trading with Russia from any western country. Russia would then be isolated like North Korea with its only ally, likely China in this scenario. Germany is in a tough situation because they decommissioned many of their nuclear plants and now rely on Russia for energy. Be interesting how this plays out.
