college comp modular w/o essay study material?
#1
Ok, so i'm on instantcert but they only have the english comp material. How relavent is this material going to be for me? I know that the test has a decent amount of citing material but that's not covered in the instantcert fc. What have you guys used to study? I'm thinking about buying a study guide but the problem is that I plan on taking the test on feb. 11th and that doesn't leave me much time to study if I have to wait for a book to arrive in the mail! Thanks for the help!

The best place to start is the exam description provided on the CLEP website and build from there. Have you checked out any suggested textbooks from universities for their first-year college composition classes? Have you done a search on this forum to see if anyone else has asked the same question (and the responses that went with it)? Here are some suggestions I have found from some homeschooling websites just to get you started:
Textbooks:
Abcarian, Literature: The Human Experience (Bedford/St. Martin’s)
Arp and Johnson, Perrine’s Literature: Structure, Sound, and Sense (W.W. Norton)
Booth, Norton Introduction to Literature (W.W. Norton)
Damrosch, Longman Anthology of World Literature (Longman)
DiYanni, Literature: Approaches to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama (McGraw-Hill)
Gardner, Literature: A Portable Anthology (Bedford)
Gwynn, Literature: A Pocket Anthology (Penguin Academics)
Kennedy and Gioia, Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama and Writing (Pearson/Longman)
Kirszner and Mandell, Literature: Reading, Reacting, Writing (Wadsworth)
Lawall, Norton Anthology of World Literature (W.W. Norton)
Meyer, The Bedford Introduction to Literature (Bedford/St. Martin’s)

CT Community College – quizzes (List of Interactive Quizzes)
Purdue Online Writing Lab (Purdue OWL)

The citing is actually fairly simple. Just be able to recognize that "Smith, John" is the author's name, and that Random House is a publishing house. I'm not kidding. Don't freak out about MLA, APA, Chicago, or whatever. A little familiarity with the way each one looks like is helpful, but in my experience, it only made my head swim. Did you try Peterson's practice tests? You can see how little and how commonsense the citing questions are on them. As for citing 2 sources in the 2nd essay, just be sure to acknowledge that you are talking about something John Smith wrote in "How I Hate Writing" in 2015. That's really all the "citing" they want to see.
