10 Civil Rights Complaints Against Excelsior Since 2015?
#1
A former Navy hospital corpsman said that she was failed on her CPNE because she refused to go out on a date with the nurse administering her test. To be fair, this guy isn't a direct employee of Excelsior and can easily be fired for his wrongdoing, but I was surprised to learn that Excelsior has had 9 or 10 other civil rights complaints in the past few years.

The victim in this story is also a part of a class action lawsuit against the school that was filed last year. I think this is the third or fourth time Excelsior has been sued over its nursing program. The result is usually that Excelsior will pay the plaintiffs and toughen admissions standards. I think it's time for Excelsior to give up on this high-stakes, CPNE format. Nursing students are currently waiting over a year to take the test.

But, I want to know how this lady spent $32k on this program. Isn't it supposed to be under $10k? And, she didn't get any educational benefits from the military?

Excelsior has eliminated about 150 positions over the past couple of years.

I couldn't agree more. I think their nursing program is a disaster, and that might be simply because they are so huge. I know TESU is expanding in this area, I hope they learn from EC's missteps.

TESU's nursing program follows a more traditional design. You can't test out of the nursing courses, and clinicals are required.

I haven't looked too deeply into it. If I remember, EC used sub-contractors to administer the exams. Do you know if TESU uses their own faculty? I would think that makes a difference.

TESU built labs on campus for the non-RN students. The nursing courses are the only ones they offer face-to-face, I believe, and the direct-entry program for non-nurses is not 100% online. Just like most other nursing programs, they use local hospitals/clinics for clinicals. TESU teaches its nursing courses. EC doesn't need nursing faculty for the ADN program because there are ECEs and Uexcels that allow you to test out. The sub-contractors are for administering the skills test at the end of the program, and no other school in the country has a nursing program that's structured like EC's with a high-stakes, all-in-one skills test.
