I couldn't quite pin down why I was getting headaches during long study sessions, so I just started playing with the display settings in Windows. White text on black backgrounds is actually a lot better on the eyes. Nothing revolutionary here, but thought it might help someone.
In Windows, hold the Windows icon key down, and hit + while still holding the Windows key down, and Magnifier should open up. Then hold CTR and ALT and hit the key for letter i. Now blues are reds, reds are blues, green is purple, black is white, white is black, etc.
In OS X, it should be Command, Option, F5. It'll open up Accessibility and you can invert from there.
Alternatively, there are also glasses that block blue light that may work even better.
