Just a recommendation. Stop worrying about what other people are saying and pick up a book on accounting and find out for yourself.
Its not hard but its a little weird at first. Debits, credits etc can throw people off. Its not what you think it is.
I would start with wikipedia and free sources and also grab an accounting for dummies or accounting demystified. The REA book is good too.
