Credit Transfer
#9
Secondly, I submitted my transcript from a community college where I took a decent amount of courses. The funny thing is, this community college accepted credits from Anthem. Any way I can possibly work that avenue? I find it ironic Thomas Edison wont take the credits but a state community college will.

Not iconic, but sparks some questions. First off, TESC "is" a regionally accredited state college, so to expect them to behave in any other way is going to give you a headache. TESC and your community college should accept credits exactly the same (there are a few small exceptions not relevant to your question).

So, here is MY question. First, are you sure your CC accepted the credit? Sometimes they put classes on your TRANSCRIPT that are not part of a degree. I'd have to see the wording- but it's possible that they are on your transcript but not in any way, shape, or form actually accepted credit.

If you are sure that they DID accept your credit, then we have to ask why. It's possible that they made a mistake. What kind of mistake? For instance, if Anthem was nationally accredited when you attended, but is now regionally accredited- someone at the CC overlooked this and it will get corrected when it's officially evaluated. (this type of mistake happened to me, 3 different colleges lol) Also, the school may have a written policy on how they accept NA credits. You can look for it, and see why they accepted them. You could even call. I'd call.

It is not unusual that TESC denied NA credit, it is unusual that your CC didn't. My money is on someone at your CC made a mistake. *sorry, been employed by a CC for 17 years.

Can you work it (launder?) No you can't work it at TESC, but you can work it at your in-state university.

IF you complete an AA/AS at the CC with your NA credit (again, assuming that they really are going to give you credit for NA courses), you can take that degree AS A BLOCK and transfer it to an instate university in which your CC has a written agreement (articulation) to do so. It's very simple, and if you are talking about a lot of credit (more than 40ish)- it might be worth it.....depends on cost of tuition at the university and CC, as well as the availability of instate scholarships and if the university has a kick-butt degree that you REALLY REALLY want. There is some value to the name recognition of local people seeking local jobs, so it could work for you in the right circumstances.

IF you complete an AOS/AAS at your CC with your NA credit (maybe that's why they awarded it to you, maybe you are in an AAS degree and they don't care?)- this is a waste of time and money, nothing will transfer to your state school (or any other college) except a few gen eds. AOS/AAS degrees are considered terminal degrees, meaning you don't actually intend on further schooling so no regard is given to how they (don't) transfer.

TESC/EC/COSC never - NEVER- award block credit. All credit is individually evaluated. This will likely hold true with almost every other college you check EXCEPT for your instate uni.

If it were me, (this was me in 2006), I'd start over - get everything at a RA college and have a clean transcript. I gave away 63 credits, so I feel your pain. But, it took me less than $5000 and only 18 months to start fresh, so it wasn't expensive or time consuming.
