What do you mean what would happen? They would still have a degree from a regionally accredited college. Many colleges have closed in the past and records are usually passed to other institutions for them to maintain.
As far as prestige, TESC is a state school that happens to cater to adult learners. Saying that I have a degree from TESC is no different than many B&M schools throughout the country that people have never heard of. If you went to any number of these B&M schools you would have to explain the same things. I mention TESC, no one knows who they are, then I just simply state that they are a NJ state school. They are regionally accredited and if anyone knows anything about the education system that should be the end of the discussion.
