Anyone Taken New On-Line DSST Test Principles of Finance?
#11
I took the web-based Principles of Finance DSST test yesterday. Thank goodness I PASSED…got a score of 51 (passing is 46)!!!! Big Grin I am soooo glad that is over with, I had a huge headache by the time I walked out of the testing center.

My web-base test consisted of 88 questions and was 2 hours long (which is not enough time, in my opinion), and nowhere on the test did I find access to an on-line calculator (as the Dantes representative stated would be the only calculator I was allowed to use). So thankfully, I was able to use MY OWN calculator. Seems the Dantes rep did not know what she was talking about. Also, the financial tables were not included as part of the testing software, like they were on the pencil and paper test.

There was a place where I could leave comments at the end of the test and I let them know that the financial tables were missing from the test. Also, a couple of questions were worded funny and made no sense to me at all, and I let them know about that too. Additionally, I informed them that 2 hours is not enough time to take a finance test.

Some other things you should know… before you are allowed to take the test, you must pay for it on-line via a credit card through the testing web site. So be sure and take a credit card with you, as that seems to be the only way you can pay for the test. One good thing, you will be required to create a user name and password, which will allow you to log in and access all of your web-based scores at any time. You can also access a receipt of payment from the site, in case you need a receipt to turn over to your employer. After you finish the test, you will have some info to read…be sure to look at that info, because that is where it will provide the URL, which will allow you to log on later and review your web-based scores. If you don’t pay attention, you will miss the URL and will have to locate it another way. Write down the URL and your user name and password, which you created earlier, so you don’t forget them. Very important, you will need the user name and password to log on and take future tests. If you forget them, your college will not be able to provide them to you later.

I have to give the same advice that others before me have provided; I would not use InstantCert alone to study for this test. There are other links that are available in other threads, which are what really helped to solidify the information in my mind. Without those other links, I don’t think I would have passed this test.

If you can find a testing center that still uses the paper and pencil method for this test, I highly recommend taking it way rather than web-based. Good luck to all.
