Here in my county, they are removing free standing postal drop mailboxes. They have already removed over 400 and have plans to remove 400 more. It means, if you either don't have home pick up or have material you want to get out faster, you have to go to an actual post office.
The boxes being fazed out are because of reduced usage (yeah, e-mail vs. snail mail -- guess who's winning?), citing they average collection of less than 25 pieces of mail in each per day.
Another expense to cut at a time when they, too, are seeing an economic downturn.
