If we bomb this or don't do as well as we like, can we retake it in Oct or November. Will there be a problem with EC if that happens?

You can take it over and over again. ETS is glad to take whatever money you want to give them (I know a guy who works there) . But, be aware that for grad school purposes, taking them more than twice, taking them twice with little or no improvement or having a horrible score at any point can do you harm. So I wouldn't sit a live test "for practice" or take them a third time.
I took the psych subject last November and got in the 78%tile. I was on the fence about retaking it, as I only need 3 more credits to complete Excelsior's major. But retaking it for 3 credits is still really cheap ! I figured buckling down for two months and squeezing out that last percentile is worth it. I guess we'll see cheersmate .
