This may not help the original poster, as the prices aren't cheaper than a CLEP, but for others over 55 the below may be useful. I saw a while ago that Lousiana Tech University has reduced tuition to students 55 years and older. Classes are as cheap as $99 a class for online courses, and $39 a class for face to face classes on campus, regardless of residency status. If you have a class you need that you can't test out of, you may want to check out their offerings, especially if they are upper level or your local community college either doesn't offer them or are too expensive.
