IMO, it's better to find something that will never go away rather than chasing trends. Fields that revolve around healthcare, food, water, power, education, business management, etc. may have their ups and downs but they will always be necessary. (Yes, I count good leadership as necessary as electricity.

Computers and tech fields are iffy. Of course technology fields are only ever growing, but the specifics are constantly changing. To wit, the knowledge and training possessed by a new graduate today will be obsolete in 5 years. It's important for anyone in any field to be constantly training and adapting to new developments and the changing world, but for tech guys it is far more critical than most.
