Can you just take one course at Penn Foster?

Yes, you can enroll in a single PF course. I went with PF for the Finance course. It worked for me. There were about 6 self paced modules, and a final exam that required a 70% or more to pass. If you fail the final, you have one opportunity to retake. The book was thorough and light on fluff. The PF course is a solid backup plan if the DSST doesn't work out. The course can be completed within a month, with little problem.
