Thanks, SpartacusPM!
My Preclinical Experiences placement was decided. Total I need to do at least 75 hours of activities, of which
30 hours - observing various teachers in the school and talking to them about teaching practices / performance
10 hours or under - planning lessons, which i can do at home and then get feedback from the mentor teacher from. Each lesson plan counts as 2 hours regardless of how much time it really took me.
10 hours or more - teaching (can be anything - co-teaching, 1 on 1 instruction with a student, and small or whole group instruction). WGU recommends co-teaching and there is no expectation for you to walk in and teach an entire class on your own.
10 to 25 hours - can be watching webinars, online panels, interviewing elementary school teachers, or going to specific types of meetings held at the school if the school has any.
As it's too close to the end of the school year, I'll be doing preclinical stuff now, go on a term break when my current term ends, then go off my term break and do student teaching in autumn 2025. WGU says only as long as I complete ALL 4 remaining courses (including the PCE course) before the end of my current term, they can look for my placement during my term break and my final semester should also be less than the normal amount of tuition.
They're changing the Preclinical and Internship stuff starting in spring 2025 and I don't know all the details yet. But they claim it will be easier to finish after the changes.
I got a new job in a totally new field which is having me learn as much as getting a new degree would be. It's really eating into my time, but I keep kicking myself because I have so few assignments left until I'm done. My job said if I put off student teaching until autumn they can assign me weekend and evening shifts so I don't have to lose my job to finish my degree.
