Holup! Just a minnit! Small correction.
Perhaps by 'Magna Graecia" for Kroton's location, they don't mean Mainland Greece. I mis-translated. I think it's possibly
best-termed Greater Greece - i.e. including Greek satellites (colonies) and Greek sphere of influence in ancient days.
It's like where I live. I'm in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), even though I'm nearly 50 miles (80 km.) from Toronto. Same deal. So, It's quite possible the "Krotona" the Pythagorean school refers to, is Croton(e) in Southern Italy where Pythagoras taught.
I've read, in an Italian source, that there are many people in that area of Calabria today, who still, after all these centuries, generally speak Greek among their own, rather than Italian.
Everything else I wrote -- no change.
