I generally think of synchronous as being the opposite of self-paced, but that might not be how others think of it.
Synchronous courses have live lectures that you must attend; asynchronous courses have lectures that are recorded and you can watch when you want.
Self-paced means there are no deadlines, or maybe a single deadline like "4 months" or "1 year" to complete a course.
Study.com, Sophia, and BYU-IS are all examples of self-paced courses.
SMS, SGB, GEN, NG, TG16, NES, SNES
