Mortuary School to AA Credit Questions

(07-04-2022, 01:30 AM)bjcheung77 Wrote: @slaterjack, Hope you'll have a great July 4th long weekend, I'll provide you a few posts and threads to review. These will give you a brief view on how others have completed their degree and where you may find inspiration to "finish". Contemplate, decide what you want after your Pierpont BOG AAS, review this thread, as you want to be as clear, concise, honest, transparent about what your educational goals are and to answer questions in a more detailed manner. As I mentioned at the beginning of my reply in post #5, I skimmed your previous threads for more details but it didn't really add too much information about you.  Here's one that will hit you (hopefully in a good way as it's close to home and your situation). A "start & finish" for someone who wanted to be a Lawyer in California and recently finished a BLS in 5 months and got paid to do so!

Now for your homework, we need to know more about your "support" system at home.  Is it just your wife? Any other family members that "cheers" you onward with your education?  I understand you may be strapped for cash and want the cheapest, easiest, fastest way towards an associates and ladder up to that bachelors.  Deep inside I can sense you've really are 50/50 at continuing with either Business, IT, or go for that goal of law school.  You need to confirm what your goals are for your educational journey, what are those goals you want to achieve?

Advice from this thread is going to basically be the same for the first 3 years of your education, the final year is where the difference lies, which advice or direction will you follow?  An example of schools mentioned, Excelsior, TESU, UMPI, which direction are you going?  For Excelsior, I mentioned NCCRS for upper level credits to finish off the degree, these are the "major subject area and junior/senior year courses" 30 credits worth, the first 90 credits are all lower level (freshman, sophomore).  Another mentioned ACE (Study.com), it depends what you want to major/study in.

Again, from this thread, our suggestions are the same, do the Pierpont BOG AAS with ACE credits to get you the first 60+, reuse your AAMI (current credits) for 30+, and the final year (if you go my route, I suggest NCCRS using Davar ($129/2 courses), (LawShelf at $35/course) or if you're going ACE Study.com ($199/2 courses), take some major/subject of your choice.  The ball is now in your court, any direction you go, you'll get there soon enough...

Note: I suggest you continue taking the Coursera/Google certifications and IBM ones if you're really interested in Business & IT, as I mention in other posts, focus on 3 things - Certs, Degree, Experience.  You can get the BOG AAS with an IT emphasis, the reason I mentioned NCCRS to finish off your courses is because you can take "intro" courses towards getting your feet wet with subjects that deal with law/legal regulations and rules at LawShelf.

Ok this is the honest truth, although I don't like being transparent I am here for help so I should just lay it out.  I don't know what I am doing.

Growing up I was like in the dark about education, no explained to me things like financial aid, student loans, scholarships etc.  I thought that was all stuff rich kids dealt with.  No one in my family went to college, no friends went, no older people to look up to, I was clueless.  I moved to CA and sang for a bunch of bands in my 20's during that time I became a huge alcoholic which lasted a decade of me working little jobs here and there but just trying to survive.  Then in my early 30's I met my fiance. I still struggled with drinking but I entered mortuary school  thinking that I could do the job no one else wanted because I simply felt dead inside and thought I could handle it. But right after I started that school I quit drinking, I quit smoking cigs, and then quit vaping.  I quit eating red meat, I started working out and getting healthy and realized that career choice was a mistake and wanted to live a life of positivity, so I dropped out.  Now cut to years later I am clean, happy, and have turned into an incredible step father by everyone's account surrounding me.  I made quite a bit of cash in the NFT space in the last couple years, but my lady is the real breadwinner as I take care of the kiddo during the days.  Taking him to school and whatnot, but now that he is older and becoming more self efficient I want to make a career for myself.  I have always, always wanted to get a law degree and since I live in Los Angeles I know I have some options for hybrid school for a JD etc so I was looking into those.  College of Law Ventura for example requires just an Associates or higher without an LSAT because of how it's accredited but I'm getting ahead of myself.  Now, I have all the support in the world from my girl, my family cheers on my decisions and I really do have time to devote to what I'm doing, the time feels right, and I know I can do it.

I would like to at least for a short term goal finish the Pierpont degree, I spoke with Nancy there and she told me to signup for the school and then have my transcripts sent there for them to look at but haven't heard back yet.  I have 3 credits from Ethics on my ACE, and then my AAMI credits (33 )which I guess if Pierpont doesn't accept them I can use towards finishing a BA in the future is I desire to?  As far as what classes and where to take them and everything to make a clear path for myself it is a bit frustrating not having anyone to ask IRL or get guidance from.  I'm turning 40 soon and I want to start seriously moving forward in my education.  I want to complete something and be proud of reaching an educational goal so I can work hard and make good money before I'm 50.  I have learned so much o this forum so far, but it is very overwhelming as I am still learning terms etc even things like "upper level" credits are foreign to me so I'm in this constant state of trying to catch up since I feel 20 years behind.
