Screwing you out of credits
#9
(10-26-2021, 05:48 PM)Adrian245 Wrote: I was told specifically by Jessica Winslow that my credits at NYU and Harvard would transfer as upper level credits and now they are saying that they can't confirm the content of these courses, AND THAT IT IS NOT THEIR JOB TO DO SO. WHOSE JOB IS IT?!. The end result is that instead of having to take just a few courses, I basically have to retake 2 years even though I have over 100 credits from NYU, one of the best universities in America.  DO NOT TRUST THAT THEY WILL FOLLOW THEIR WORD. ONLY ENROLL IF THEY HAVE ALREADY ALLOCATED YOUR CREDITS PROPERLY. Do not give them money. It is a SCAM. I wouldn't be surprised if certain people on this forum were actually UMPI representatives pretending to have been successful in the program.
I think you are a troll with no relationship with UMPI. Here is my reasoning:

In a prior thread, you said you were admitted for the July 5 start. You said you were pursuing a BLS with Educational Studies minor. When I was admitted, I was told that my degree audit had to be completed before I could start taking classes. You do, after all, need some idea of what classes you are going to take. Since then, the July and Aug 30 terms have started and concluded.

So, did you actually begin taking classes in July or August?  Did you actually take classes with no idea of what you needed to graduate?  Respectfully, I don’t believe someone smart enough to be admitted to NYU could/would do that. Not for nothing: if you actually started in July, you could easily have completed 8-10 courses, more if you have the time and motivation. If that is the case, are you really coming here to blast your future alma mater as a scam because it will take you, say, 3 terms instead of 1 to get your degree?  That seems really an odd thing to do, so I don’t think you have taken a class at UMPI

If you have not been taking classes and have only recently received your degree audit, that seems odd (odd that it would take three months), but possible, I suppose.  I am going to take everything you have said up to this point as absolute truth for the purposes of this paragraph. If that is the case, what, exactly, is your frustration?  You completed a free application at UMPI and paid perhaps $20-30 for transcripts. You received a bad evaluation that would require you to complete additional coursework. I am sure that is frustrating. You said in another post that you had received quite favorable evaluations from TESU. Why not complete your degree there?  A bad evaluation does not mean that a university is a scam. I have this sinking suspicion that if I tried to transfer to NYU, I would end up having to take quite a few courses from them, including repeating some took elsewhere. Respectfully, that does not make NYU (or UMPI) a scam.

I also am having trouble making sense of the number of credits you are saying UMPI is wanting you to complete. The Educational Studies minor is 7 classes/21 credits. UMPI requires everyone to complete at least 30 credits in residence, so, that is a given.  UMPI requires 8 upper level courses outside the minor for the BLS, so if we assume that on your evaluation they have you zero credit for any prior upper-level work, that could put you at 15 courses (7 for the minor plus 8 UL). If your gen eds from NYU do not line up with UMPI gen eds, you could have a few more that would get you to around 20 courses, or 2 years (in conventional academic timing) to complete your degree.

So, to clarify, did UMPI not give you any credit for your upper-level coursework?  Did you have gaps in your gen eds?  If this is the case, it is not a scam for them to expect you to meet the degree requirements. In many cases, those requirements are set by the university system or even the state legislature. Also, and I want to be clear about something, how many upper-level credits did you actually have on your transcript?  If only a few, it is not unreasonable that one or more would be accepted as lower level.

One final question, have you talked to Jessica about this or did you just send off a post on this message board?  I had some things that were transferred in/evaluated incorrectly. I asked Jessica about it and in about a week, they were resolved. She talked to the registrar and it was all sorted out.
