I just started to take some SOPHIA classes finished 2 about to finish a 3rd, but I'm going to look into getting the general education classes from my local community college (Union county college). hopefully its not too expensive, if not i'll check NMJC or TEL learning.
I want to be able to complete classes on my own time like in SOPHIA because of work, anyone has any recommendations for these gen ed online classes.
There are multiple options, depending on your personal preferences.
- TEL Learning - Complete at your own pace. I think they give you a year from purchase to finish? I can't remember. But you shouldn't need an entire year to finish anyway. The only outside materials that might be needed are supplies for the science labs (labs not required) $200 per 3-credit course.
- Olivet Nazarene University - 100% self-paced. Complete in your own time, pay NOTHING until you finish a course. Most of their course offerings could be a gen ed. At the very least, a free elective. (I am unsure of where their nutrition class would go.) No outside materials needed; everything is included in the course. $150 per course.
- TECEPs - Study on your own, pay for and schedule the exam when you're ready. The English Comp ones are supposed to be pretty quick and easy ways to get those credits. Some exams require the purchase/rental of textbooks or other study materials in order to be able to pass. $150 for LL exams, $225 for UL ones.
- CSU Global Self-Study Assessments - Not really a good way to fill your gen eds but can be a good source of credit for some degrees. Must go through enrollment process as a non-degree seeking student to access. May have to purchase/rent a textbook to prepare for exam. $250 per exam.
- UExcels - Good variety but can be quite expensive, depending on the exam. They start at $110 + proctor fees and go up from there. If you purchase the study guide (which is strongly recommended), they can cost more than TECEPs or CSU Global exams.
