No, discussing them with advising is just fine, you just have to understand their limitations. You can ask the advisor how a particular ACE course will transfer in and get a decent answer, but you won't have much luck asking them to suggest ACE courses. If you ask what course will work for your Ethics requirement, for example, they will only mention their own courses.
