No, it's not what you get on the pie chart, it's only what you get on a knowledge check that counts. So you'd probably have to work through more than 70% of the pie to score at least 70% on a knowledge check.
I keep coming across different information on this topic throughout the forum, but it sounds like the percentage of the pie chart does matter. I requested transfer credit through ACE with 63% to see what they would say about it and they sent me an email stating:
Quote:We received the below request from ACE to approve your College Algebra course. At this time you have not completed your ALEKS course with a knowledge check of 70% or higher. In order to approve ACE credit, you must complete a knowledge check with 70% or higher. Your last knowledge check was completed with 63% and even if you had any additional % in the learning mode, this does not count toward completion of your course.
Please continue working in ALEKS until you have achieved the objective of completing a knowledge check with 70% or higher, then re-apply at ACE for the course credit.
If you need additional assistance, please let me know.

The 63% that they mentioned was the percentage of what I had completed of the pie chart at the time. I think that they should make this more clear on their site, instead of saying that you need at least a 70% or higher on the knowledge checks to receive credit, they should say that you should have more than 70% of the pie chart completed and score at least a 70% on a knowledge check in order to obtain credit.
To clarify, you ONLY need a 70% or higher on your most recent knowledge check to obtain credit. It doesn't matter how much of the pie you have completed. In their response, ALEKS basically says the same thing... but adds that even if you have 70% on the pie chart you still need at least 70% on the knowledge check to obtain credit.
FYI, I received credit for both Statistics and Trigonometry by getting a 70% or greater on my initial knowledge check for each, which means I had 0% in the pie. (I used Khan Academy videos for the majority of my study and review, rather than the ALEKS service.)
