Just to be clear, October is the last term that finishes before the end of the year. November is the last term that allows for a March graduation.
If you want in the October term, you should call as was suggested, sometimes spots open up or sections are added... However, I think that picking the right mentor is an important factor in having a successful capstone. Some mentors are very helpful, others are not. Also, some can be sticklers about your topic, others more inclusive. You can find threads on here that talk about different mentors, and ratemyprofesor.com is also helpful.
It might be better to wait a month and get the mentor of your choice rather than take whoever's left.
