The Shmoop (sp?) courses would then count in the AOS and the capstone would still apply. Due to the change, the degree is now actually a liberal arts (on official transcript) degree anyway so there is no downside. Or, am I missing something?
Yes, easier and probably what will happen. It is the principal here based on courses I took specifically, that I would have done differently based on cost and time and subject. NO ONE - not even Study.com - was told of any changes; they were not published, nor given a cut off date, and they are applying them retroactively, without any clear deadline of a new standard date of downgraded courses. Even Study was very surprised by this! It's arbitrary and unacceptable for a business like they are in. There should be set dates and times and cut offs published, or at the very least given to Study.com as their partner! Not simply taken away quietly, secretly, and nobody knows about it. That's my two cents.
I'm not yelling at you, btw.
