Sociology Electives- TESU
#32
sanantone Wrote:I mostly know what can be useful at TESU.

History
A couple of upper level history courses could help people. This is a somewhat popular program.

Psychology
This is a pretty popular program. Some people opt for the social science program since it's more flexible, and there aren't many affordable options for upper level psychology credits.

Computer Science
A lot of people opt for the BSBA in CIS because the computer science degree is too expensive to complete when paying out of pocket, but the BSBA is a business degree with a little information systems. It is not a good substitute for computer science. Discrete math, data structures, and linear algebra will make this degree easier to complete. Some UL computer science courses are also needed.

Information Technology
The BSAST in Information Technology has much of the same problems as the computer science degree. Computer architecture, database management, software engineering, and operating systems will make this degree doable. Plus, all of these courses can be used for the computer science program in addition to the BSBA in CIS and BA in Natural Science and Mathematics.

Natural Science
The BA in Natural Science and Mathematics is a flexible degree people opt for because it's too difficult complete the BA in Mathematics or Biology cheaply. Some people who want to major in computer science also opt for this program. However, it doesn't have many options for UL credits. UL biology credits will probably be the easiest to design and will probably draw more people than UL physics or chemistry courses. Immunology, virology, cell biology, UL genetics, and molecular biology are some common courses at universities. These could also help people complete a BS in Natural Science with a concentration in Biology at Excelsior or a BS in General Studies with a concentration in Biology at COSC.

Finance
The BSBA in Finance is one of the few business degrees at TESU that has a severe lack of options for the area of study. UL finance courses would be nice.

Science Labs
Some people need science courses with labs either for a degree at the Big 3 or as prerequisites for a graduate or health professions program. For the health professions, sometimes these courses have to come from a regionally accredited school, but sometimes they don't. Organic chemistry I and II, chemistry II, biology II, and physics II are some of the labs that don't have easy to find, affordable and flexible options. Standalone labs are better than labs offered with the courses since people can test out of biology I and II, chemistry I and II, and physics I and II without lab. Biochemistry without lab would also be nice. Also, most of TESU's BSAST programs require chemistry I and II with labs or physics I and II with labs.

Humanities
I don't believe there are a lot of options for UL humanities credits. You could kill two birds with one stone by offering religion courses that can be used for the humanities and religion programs.

Sociology
UL sociology credits, as evidenced by this thread, are hard to find.

WOW sanantone this is GREAT! Thanks for your suggestion. Tricia Smile
