Three reasons for the big three: cost, regional accreditation, and flexibility.
ITT Tech announced today the closing of all its schools due to pressure from the federal government. They have a pending lawsuit and are accused of inflating employment graduation figures. The example I read about was the job placement rate being claimed at 80% of all graduates find jobs in the fields they graduated in, when in reality actual job placement rates was around 50%.
This is the problem with for profit schools. They inflate, manipulate numbers as they have to please investors not to mention if you look at the costs of a 2 yr degree at a for profit school, you could get a 4 yr degree from the big three for cheaper or around same cost. It is literally a no brainer.
