I took the 2nd one, and yes, it had essays. Nothing too bad, and you have limited time. My only suggestion is to copy anything you write, and then be ready to paste it. Because for some odd reason, the TECEP's make you go to a new section each time, and you can't go back. So I had to write a thesis in one section, and then flesh it out in the next. Only I couldn't go back and read it. The set up is simply terrible, but the tests aren't hard.
