I found the MIS DSST test to be far easier than to take a class from any school, especially since I was able to pass it cold.
I would do anything to take the DSST instead of wasting time and money on a class. I'm sure the CLEP is the same thing.
It's so easy, that I would buy a plane ticket 3-4 weeks in advance for a morning flight to the CHEAPEST testing city (which is not necessarily the closest testing center), rent a car or take a cab, take the test, eat dinner, and then fly back with 3 credits. It's pretty much a guaranteed pass if you are working in a large IT department. If you don't know the subject, it can be crammed in 1-5 days if you know the basics of using a computer. You can do last minute studying on the plane ride. If you need multiple tests, take them the same day.
Actually, the CLEP is easier... and the Intro to computing DSST is even easier than the CLEP
