What do you call this kind of learning, and who offers it?

I am continuing to pore through the threads.

I found this one: Kentucky TCS

In this, the writer discusses a regionally accredited school, that offers community college credit (instead of ACE / pass equivalent) education.

The trick is, it almost sounds like there is little to no teacher interaction and little, what do you call it? Where you have students you have to interact with and do communal projects?

I like this kind of learning. I read really, really fast, and like the idea of getting approved for a class, then taking a night or two a week and churning through the modules. Having to log in and wait on other students, or worse, if I get a busy week and can't pull my weight concerns me.



He says it is similar to straighterline, except you can take the pre-test, and if you do 90% or more, you don't have to slog through the material (like the TEEX courses).

He also says the tests aren't proctored.

I like the idea of testing on my own terms, instead of having to take off work and buying a seat at the local prometrix center (it is cramped in that place!)

So, the cost is over double what my local cc charges per credit (a little over $500 a course, it seems). SL says they cost about $150 a course, but then it's straighterline, and not a college.


My question is, are there other places like this at a more competitive fee structure? If I want to be able to eventually go on to an advanced degree, will most places make a deal out of SL/TECEP/ACE versus cc transcripted credits?
