Yes, study.com started out just being a CLEP-prep type of thing (also DSST and UExcel prep), but later got ACE-approved for many of their courses. Some of them are not as many credits (study.com's Chem course is 3cr while the CLEP is 6cr), or not the same level (some UExcel's are UL, while the corresponding study.com course is LL).
But all in all, a good way to learn the material if you need more guidance than just taking the CLEP.
I've heard that SL is more "teach to the text" with actual lines coming straight from the textbook, while a CLEP is more general - you could use any college textbook to study for a CLEP. So I would assume that study.com is also more general. But I could be wrong.
