Is the Law of Moses Valid for today?
#13
Yes. I do agree that the New Testament is most concerned about salvation. But neither does it give outright permission to disregard the Law of Moses. There are situations in which, it might be permissible to partake of forbidden foods i.e. If you are a guest somewhere and there are no other choices available. It would be better to partake of the meal to avoid offending your host. But I think that would be a rare occurrence indeed. But within your own house, you have the responsibility to respect God's wisdom behind the Law of Moses be you Christian or Jewish. That isn't to say that all things apply to every person or to every group. And the Law of Moses certainly does not apply to an unbeliever, who is a Gentile i.e. a stranger. But remember that becoming a Jew begins at the heart. Romans 2:28. Therefore as Christians, we are held to a much higher standard than these people as we are responsible for living a life of love and a life of fulfilling Biblical prophecy. This is the most important part of striving to keep the Law of Moses through Christ, our Lord! See Hebrews 8:8-10: For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:" -- > The previous scripture is a direct quote of Jeremiah 31:31-34. All scripture is given to learn from so that we can purify ourselves both physically and spiritually. 2 Cor 7:1. "For I the Lord, do not change. Malachi 3:6

However, the Law of Moses does not determine salvation as the Counsel of Jerusalem rightly concluded. Acts 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judæa taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. Acts 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. So the apostles clearly stated that our salvation is in now way connected to be obedient to the Law of Moses.

It is true that many Christians do not leave a good example to those strangers among us. Be they Atheist, Agnostic, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, etc. By the way, my agnostic Co-worker and I get along very well. And yes many Christians ignore the harder sections of the Bible to please their desires. Although the root of the problem arises with the leaders of the current churches that care more about quantity than quality.

Of course, the Law will be fulfilled when all things come to pass and when Earth and Heaven pass away. Matt 5:17-20. "one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." As I stated before, in order for prophecy to be fulfilled, the Law of Moses must be remembered. If I fail to fulfill prophecy as a Christian, what right do I have to call myself a Christian? Following the Old Testament laws isn't about what we do, but about what Christ can do through us. No. It is an outward sign of our visible Christian faith that comes from the change in our inner hearts. Is the best way that I can show my love to our creator, the God of Abraham, the God of Jacob, and the God of Isaac. Neither are these things in Lev 19:19 that out of ordinary as I have found out from work. A shirt with mixed fibers is more likely to tear. The only forbidden here is the mixing of wool with cotton as in being interwoven. But though it is certainly better to have garments of some sort to wear.

And I certainly do agree that one shouldn't be prideful about following the Law of Moses. That is when we fall into spiritual defilement, which was the point of Mark 7:1-23 and Matthew 15:10-15 and not about what we could eat. The correct rendition of these verses should be using the word purging. Which is a discussion of how our body digests food. But we most certainly should judge with a righteous judgment and that is we should know all the facts before we can rightly correct another Christian. The issue that the apostles had with the religious leaders of their time were adding extra-biblical rules to how believers should apply the wisdom of the Bible to their lives.

As a Christian, I simply cannot be a part of fulfilling the Malachi 4:4 prophecy "to remember the Law of Moses"; if I choose to eat pork and other forbidden foods. So be wise my friends and learn that everyone can make a difference in this world.
