Really? In my career I've found people to be rather consistent. I'm working a stalker/drunk/harassment case right now and unsurprisingly when I ran him his past crimes are quite predicable.

You described a generalist. He didn't just engage in one deviancy. No one will probably ever know what his sexual habits were whether legal or illegal. Watching pornography that simulates incest is not illegal, but it is still deviant. Most sex offenders will never be caught.

Arousal studies are mostly done in Canada because researchers aren't allowed to show child pornography to participants in the U.S. Being only attracted to children is rare for a pedophile. Most pedophiles have sexual relations with adults and are aroused by adults. Most pedophiles have engaged in other types of crime or deviant behaviors. There is a major difference between what is known to the criminal justice system and what happens in reality. Most crimes go undetected.

If anything Duggar's recent acts would appear as a reversal or regression. A pedophile often gets off on the control and manipulation aspects...adultery through Ashley Madison doesn't fit the bill. I might argue this is supported by the reported turn on's revealed with the account: Duggar likes to cuddle. I think this guy grew up in an authoritarian house with lots of rules, has genuine guilt which his family instilled from a young age, and has acted out within the strict confines imposed by others. Doesn't vindicate any of it, but Fogle acted in a very different abhorrent manner.

Duggar's behaviors are consistent. He lacks self-control, and his known self-control issues surround sexual behaviors. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he lacks self-control in other areas of his life.

My instinctive response? I don't feel sorry for Anna. She's an adult. How she lives her life is her choice. Women have left bad relationships before, and it wasn't easy. Women have stayed in bad relationships, and it wasn't easy. We live the lives we choose to live.

And, yes, I do sound like a cold-hearted you-know-what, but I think it's demeaning to treat a woman as if she can't handle her own life.

Well, she did know that he was a child molester before she married him. However, men and women can fall to brainwashing. They are under the pressure of a cult.
